Right To Information Act (2005)
Right to Information Act 2005,was promulgated in 2005 to promote transparency and accountability in the working of every public authority.
All the citizens to request information from any public authority about work,
action,etc.
It empower the ordinary citizens to question the government and its working.
Used by media and citizens to uncover
the corruption progress in government
work,expenses related information etc.
Firstly Right to Information act developed from Sweden in 1766.
In India, Tamilnadu is the first state to
Pass the RTI law in 1997.
Freedom of information act,2002 passed, but not came into force,this act
were replaced as RTI in 2005 and came into force on October 12th.
Objectives of RTI act:
• Empower the citizens
• Promote transparency
• Control corruption
• An information citizens will be better equipped
• Government more accountable to
Govern the society.
Salient features of RTI act:
• All the citizens possess the Right to Information.
• Information can be obtained within 30
days from the date of request in a normal
Case. If information is the matter of life
or liberty of a person, it can be obtained
within 48 hours from the time of request.
• Every public authority is under the
obligation to provide information on
written request or request by means of
Electronics. Critain information are
Prohibited. Restricted made for the third
Party information.
• Appeal against the decision of the
Central information commission or state
Information commission can be made an officer who is senior in rank.
